Poets Cam Awkward-Rich (Dispatch), Kate Daniels (In the Months of My Son’s Recovery), and Gregory Orr (The Last Love Poem I Will Ever Write) will read selected poems from their recent collections. Book sales and a signing will follow. This event will be free to attend and open to the public.

Why should you attend?

“Weighed down by the ‘brutal choreography’ of violence against black, queer, trans bodies, [Awkward-Rich] reestablishes buoyancy through will and formidable artistry.” —Publisher’s Weekly

“I’ve long admired Kate Daniels’s poetry, but In the Months of My Son’s Recovery takes her art to a new level. The achievement is hard won: many of the poems were written in response to a family tragedy. These are among the most powerful, human, and compelling poems that I’ve read in the last twenty years.” —Ernest Suarez, Five Points

“Orr’s graceful lines convey complex ideas about the ability of language to shape how people experience and act in the world…[His] writing feels transcendent. Language shines, shimmers, delights, and rises as high as it can.” —Elizabeth Lund, Christian Science Monitor

This event is part of the 2020 Virginia Festival of the Book. A full schedule of events is available here.
