Megan Angelo (Followers), Rion Amilcar Scott (The World Doesn’t Require You), and Deb Olin Unferth (Barn 8) will discuss their satirical novels that use humor to challenge the status quo. Book sales and a signing will follow. This event will be free to attend and open to the public.

Why should you attend?

“Endless clever details and suspenseful plotting make this speculative-fiction debut [Followers] an addictive treat.” —Kirkus Reviews, starred review

“Scott proves himself an impressive myth-slayer and fable-maker….The World Doesn’t Require You reminds us that having to fight racism has a strange way of distorting everything one touches….With two books under his belt, Scott seems to have barely skimmed the surface of the many more characters and conflicts he could explore in Cross River.” —Salamishah Tillet, New York Times Book Review

Barn 8 is a novel like no other: An urgent moral fantasia, a post-human parable, a tender portrait of animal dignity and genius.” —Dana Spiotta

This event is part of the 2020 Virginia Festival of the Book. A full schedule of events is available here.
