Meet the author and the illustrator! Join us for a special Storytime with Candice Ransom and Jamey Christoph, author and illustrator of Bones in the White House. This event will be free and open to the public. All ages welcome!
Who would have guessed that Thomas Jefferson, third president, author of the Declaration of Independence, was also interested in science? When explorers found giant bones in a Kentucky marsh, Jefferson was fascinated. Did that mysterious creature still roam in uncharted American territory? For thirty years, Jefferson was obsessed with the animal we know as the mastodon. He wanted the brand-new United States to take its place on the world stage in science. With a gigantic beast never seen before, America could prove its greatness. Only getting those bones was not so easy…
Candice Ransom is the author of nearly 160 books for children and young adults. She has always wanted to be a writer since she wrote her first “book” at the age of seven. She has written everything from board books to biographies, picture books to contemporary fiction, and young adult novels to nonfiction. Her books include the classic picture books The Big Green Pocketbook, Amanda Panda Quits Kindergarten, Snow Day!, Tooth Fairy’s Night, Terrier Trouble, Rebel McKenzie, and Amanda Panda and the Bigger, Better Birthday. She lives in Fredericksburg, VA, with her husband and two high-maintenance cats.
Jamey Christoph’s illustrations have appeared in The New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, and in several award-winning children’s books. Jamey is an old soul at heart. His work draws inspiration from vintage advertising and travel posters and a lifelong curiosity of the past, particularly in the character of old buildings, cars, fashion, and music. He has received multiple recognitions from the Society of Illustrators, Communication Arts, and 3×3 Magazine. He works out of his 1920s home in Cleveland Heights, OH, with his crazy dogs, Owen and Jack.
