Join us for the February Charlottesville Reading Series event, featuring author GennaRose Nethercott and poet Ben Sloan. This in-person event will be free and open to the public. We recommend arriving early for the best seating.
GennaRose Nethercott is the author of a novel, Thistlefoot, and a book-length poem, The Lumberjack’s Dove, which was selected by Louise Glück as a winner of the National Poetry Series. Her debut collection of short stories, Fifty Beasts to Break Your Heart: And Other Stories, will be released from Vintage this coming February. She tours nationally and internationally performing strange tales (sometimes with puppets in tow) and helps create the podcast Lore. She lives in the woodlands of Vermont, beside an old cemetery.
Ben Sloan grew up on a farm in southeast Missouri. He is a graduate of Washington University, and he has a PhD from the CUNY Graduate Center and an MFA in creative writing from Brooklyn College, where he studied with and, after graduating, worked as the assistant and secretary for the poet John Ashbery. Currently a faculty fellow at the Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning at Piedmont Virginia Community College, he has taught for over fifteen years in prisons including ones in North Carolina and Virginia. His most recent poetry collection, published last summer by Seven Kitchens Press and entitled Then On Out Into a Cloudless Sky, is dedicated to his students at the Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women.
