Family Trees and Legacies Festival of the Book

Friday, March 22 from 11:00am to 12:30pm

Poets Remica Bingham-Risher, Lightsey Darst, and Irène Mathieu will read from their latest books.

This in-person event is a part of the 2024 Virginia Festival of the Book and will take place at the shop.

Three poets look back on their lineage, translating its impact with daring, inventive forms.

Remica Bingham-Risher retraces trauma and truth in her own family line, weaving in historical documents from her ancestors in Room Swept Home. Lightsey Darst interrogates her Southern ancestry and the legacy of white womanhood in The Heiress/Ghost Acres. Poet and pediatrician Irène Mathieu explores home, motherhood, and modern life in her latest collection, milk tongue.
