Saturday, March 19 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm

Authors Benjamin Gilmer and Chip Jones will read from their new books.

This in-person event is a part of the 2022 Virginia Festival of the Book. Please note that this event will take place off-site at the Irving Theater in the CODE Building (225 W. Water St.).

Authors Benjamin Gilmer (The Other Dr. Gilmer) and Chip Jones (The Organ Thieves) will read from their new books, which explore true stories at the intersection of the medical world and the legal world. Chronicling failures of the prison system and the history of medical mistreatment of African Americans as well as the narratives that attend both, these books convey, contextualize, and critique institutional injustices. This event will be moderated by Kristen Green.

As part of the 2022 Virginia Festival of the Book, this in-person event is free to attend and open to the public. In response to Covid-19, many venues have limited capacity. Early arrival is strongly encouraged. For more information about the specific Covid-19 guidelines for this venue, visit vabook.org.
