Terry M. Coffey’s calligraphic work, which she began four decades ago, predates her work with watercolor, oil, and acrylic. Over time, her painting has been influenced by the graceful lines of calligraphy, which in turn has been influenced by the vibrancy of watercolors, oils, and acrylics. When applying a brush stroke, creating a composition, or experimenting with new materials, as she has done most recently with textured acrylics, she taps into the dramatic flow of calligraphy, finding inspiration in the discipline and grace of the letterform.
