Join us for a reading with La’Tasha Strother and Ben Sloan. La’Tasha Strother will be reading from her latest work, and Ben Sloan will be reading from his new poetry collection, Who and What We Are. This in-person event will be free and open to the public. We recommend arriving early for the best seating.
La’Tasha Strother is a Charlottesville-based artist who specializes in performance and creative writing. She is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University and is currently pursuing an MA at Hunter College in applied theatre. Through word, sound, and movement power, La’Tasha brings stories alive. Her preferred creative writing styles are prose poetry, short stories, and creative nonfiction. La’Tasha uses creative writing to express joy, hardship, curiosity, imagination, determination, and faith.
Ben Sloan grew up on a farm in southeast Missouri. He has a PhD in American literature from the CUNY Graduate Center and an MFA in creative writing from Brooklyn College, where he studied with John Ashbery—and, for a year after graduating, worked as his secretary. He has taught composition, literature, college success skills, and creative writing at Piedmont Virginia Community College, as well as at men’s and women’s prisons. His poetry collections include The Road Home (Thirty West Publishing House, 2017), Then On Out Into a Cloudless Sky (Seven Kitchens Press, 2023), and Who and What We Are (Seven Kitchens Press, 2026).
