Join us for a reading with short story writer Michael Croley (Any Other Place) and biographer Charles J. Shields (The Man Who Wrote the Perfect Novel: John Williams & Stoner). This event will be cosponsored by VQR and will be free and open to the public.
Michael Croley was born in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The recipient of an NEA Fellowship in Literature in 2016, his work has appeared in a number of publications, including Catapult, VQR, The Paris Review Daily, Kenyon Review Online, and Narrative. His debut collection of stories is Any Other Place. He teaches creative writing at Denison University.
Charles J. Shields is the author of Mockingbird: A Portrait of Harper Lee (New York Times bestseller and Book-of-the-Month Club Alternate); And So It Goes: Kurt Vonnegut, A Life (New York Times and Washington Post Notable), both published by Henry Holt & Co; and The Man Who Wrote the Perfect Novel: John Williams & Stoner, published by the University of Texas Press. He’s currently writing There’s Always Something Left to Love: Lorraine Hansberry & A Raisin in the Sun, slated to be published by Henry Holt & Co. in 2020.
