Present Perspectives

Friday, March 20 from 4:00pm to 5:30pm

Tochi Eze, Kevin Moffett, and Tamar Shapiro will share their new novels.

This in-person event is a part of the 2026 Virginia Festival of the Book and will take place at the shop.

Three recent novels bring to life stories set in past decades, centering on the complexities of love, legacy, and family.

Tochi Eze’s This Kind of Trouble touches the 1960s, the 1990s, and the early aughts, in a novel of forbidden love that spans Atlanta, London, and Lagos.

Longlisted for the National Book Award, Only Son by Kevin Moffett follows a 1980s boy into adulthood, when he embarks on a dad-and-son road trip in the wake of his own father’s death.

In Restitution by Tamar Shapiro, two American siblings visit their mother’s homeland in East Germany, in a story set after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
