Evan Friss Carol Troxell Reader

Friday, March 21 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm

The 2025 Carol Troxell Reader, Evan Friss, will speak about his new book.

This in-person event is a part of the 2025 Virginia Festival of the Book and will take place at the shop.

Author Evan Friss will speak about his new bestselling book, The Bookshop: A History of the American Bookstore, one of Time’s 100 Must-Read Books of 2024. Called “a spirited defense of this important, odd and odds-defying American retail category” by The New York Times, Friss’s history pulls from oral histories, archival collections, municipal records, diaries, letters, and interviews with leading booksellers, peering behind the shelves into the story of a distinct and treasured part of readers’ lives.
