Stop by during Festival of the Book for this Open Mic Night sponsored by The Dec. UVA students will share their poetry, flash fiction, and stand-up comedy. This event is free and open to the public.
The Declaration—or as the kids refer to them, The Dec—is a biweekly, tabloid-format student newsmagazine published at the University of Virginia. Founded in 1973, and passing through the hot little hands of many an editorial staff in the years since then, the Dec is devoted to cultural critique by way of movie and album reviews, tracts of creative fiction and nonfiction, political analysis, and the occasional harangue. Their writing varies from hard news to soft satire and everything in between.
